Most of the places we visited were primitive
villages. Consequently there were no dock facilities. Landing
involved getting out of the boat in the water and trudging inland.
On this occasion I made the stupid mistake of wearing my hiking boots. After all how deep would the water really be? The answer was "deep enough". It took me several days (and a lot of washcloths stuffed into the boots) to dry them.
